Considering A New Look? 3 Cuts That Will Always Be In Style

For many men, choosing a cut and style that works with their appearance, personality, and lifestyle can be a challenge. From a simple buzz cut to the classic school-boy look, the possibilities are endless. Fortunately, you can find help for cutting and styling your hair. Here are a few classic cuts and styles that are easy to maintain and always in fashion.

Slick Back

The slick-back style is one of the easiest looks to achieve and maintain, so it is easy to see why it is such a popular option that never seems to go out of style. If you are interested in this simple look, make sure you have the right hair consistency.

While possible, slicking back thick and coarse hair can be a bit challenging. Therefore, the slick-back look is best suited if you have fine- or medium-thickness hair strand that is a bit longer on top.

For the cut, ask the barber to keep the length longer on top, but it can be trimmed around the sides and back. If preferred, you can use clippers for a truly close or short shave and cut around the sides, leaving the top longer.

You can go with or without product to achieve the slick-back look. A bit of gel or mousse goes a long way. Just rub a small amount in your hands and fingers before using to move the hair back off your forehead. Many men choose to just wash and go, slicking their wet hair back without any product at all.

Pompadour

You may not know its name, but you most likely have seen the pompadour hairstyle. It may be surprising to know that the pompadour look can be traced back to the 1700s. Thankfully, the look works in today's modern society.

The key to creating the pompadour look is to keep your sides and back straight with the top longer, allowing you to not really slick it back but to comb it up off and away from your forehead.

To style the classic look, use a water-based pomade to slick back the sides and back, keeping the hair as close to your scalp as possible. Work a round brush through the top of the hair, rolling the brush up and back as you blow-dry the hair. Complete the look by spraying a fine mist of hair spray on the top portion of hair to keep secure throughout the day.

Crew Cut

If you prefer a cut and style that is even more simple to create and maintain, consider a classic crew cut.

Crew cuts are characterized by short hair on the sides and back. In most cases, clippers are used to cut the hair to a short and neat length instead of traditional scissors, which would leave more hair. The hair is then faded to transition the shorter sides and back with longer hair on the top.

Scissors can be used to cut the top layer of hair. For a more traditional look, scissors should cut all the hair evenly. If you prefer something more modern and edgy, the barber or stylist should use scissors to layer or feather the hair, adding enormous texture.

To style, you can choose to wash and go, wash and towel dry, or wash, dry, and apply a bit of product. For example, to complement the textured layer of hair on the top, use a bit of pomade or mousse to show off the definition added to your hair.

Finding the cut and style suited to your appearance and likes is possible. Consider one of these classic cuts the next time you head to your local barbershop.
